Celebrating Volunteers Going Above and Beyond on National Volunteer Week

Volunteers Make Waves
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2025 is Volunteers Make Waves. It highlights the power that volunteers have in our communities - that together we create ripples of change that form a wave.
United Way Niagara is proud to recognize a few volunteers who have gone above and beyond for their community by sharing some of their insights on why they volunteer.

Ruby Hill
“I have volunteered with United Way Niagara for the past 6 years. I have always felt the need to help the community, and the Period Promise Campaign provided me with a strong foundation to help those in need.
I grew up in a home where I never had to worry where my next meal was coming from or if I would have access to products during my menstrual cycle, however, not everyone is that fortunate. This campaign has opened my eyes to the menstrual poverty that is reality for many individuals.
I have had some wonderful opportunities throughout my time with United Way Niagara that I am extremely grateful for. I have had the privilege of sharing my love for this campaign with younger peers through the school drive as we all continue to develop new ideas and advocacy techniques to over come period poverty. I strive towards creating a better quality of life for all individuals because I believe everyone deserve an equal chance at a good and healthy lifestyle."

Emily DeGaust
“As a Campaign Ambassador for United Way Niagara, I’m honoured to work alongside my colleagues at Niagara Parks to raise funds that will directly benefit our community. By coming together as an organization, we can amplify our impact and support those who need it most. This experience has shown me the strength of unity, and how, when we all contribute, we can truly make a difference in the lives of our neighbours."

Louise Goller
"My grandparents and parents volunteered when I was younger. They taught me that volunteering is one of the most important things a person can do to improve their community and the world around them. I volunteer because giving back has always been important to me.
I enjoy volunteering with the United Way because I know that my work benefits someone in need and feels good. United Way supports amazing agencies and programs knowing this creates an incredibly rewarding experience that makes me feel good about myself and my ability to impact the community positively.
I look forward to volunteering with the United Way every moment, day and year! Because I am part of a team committed to bringing people and organizations together to meet the immediate community needs-and tackling the complex social issues at the root of those needs."
We're so grateful for the contributions of all our local volunteers that make the work of United Way Niagara possible. We hope these inspiring testimonials encourage you to give back to your community!
